The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) is a non-profit that certifies welders, welding inspectors, and companies that work on welding and joining steel structures. Recently, Great Northern Bridgeworks received certification with the CWB as a Division 2 Erector and Fabricator. This means that our work is certified and has the quality assurance granted by the primary Canadian regulatory body governing welding. This shows the standards of our work and the ability of our workforce. Steel welding is a central part of our operations that involves our engineers, supervisors, and of course, welders. The certification displays our ability to follow the standards set out by the CWB for all our clients, and it ensures that we continue to meet these rigorous standards in the future.
What is the Canadian Welding Bureau?
The CWB has been a national organization for ensuring the standards of commercial welding since 1947. At that time, steel welding became essential to construction across Canada. This is due in part to the post-war period being a time of intensive growth for Canadian business and commercial developments. To address the need for regulation in a relatively new industry (welding), the Canadian Standards Agency (CSA) was mandated to develop standards and create a national body to administer them. This led to the formation of the CWB Group and the two primary welding standards, W59 and W47.
Since its inception, the CWB has expanded the number of standards it administers to address areas that are related or tangential to welding, such as welding inspections and coordination. Now the CWB Group also offers courses and diplomas for industry professionals. These are offered through the CWB Institute (CWBi), and courses are provided in multiple formats, including classroom, online, and self-study. This helps to bolster the number of trained professionals entering the industry, and ensures that the working base is able to attain qualification regardless of their background.
Our CWB Certification
Given that a substantial amount of our work involves the construction and deployment of steel structures, Great Northern Bridgeworks has achieved the W47.1 CWB certification which verifies our employee’s skillsets and our commitment to the high standards that the CWB sets out. W47.1 is the “Fusion Welding of Steel Company Certification”, and it qualifies our welding supervisors, engineers, and welders to perform their duties. Each are given examinations to verify their understanding of best practices, available equipment, and procedures.
As your CWB Certified contractor, Great Northern Bridgeworks provides this high standard of service across all aspects of our work. You can contact us at anytime to discuss a project or planned construction.
